A California Autumn

I created Otoño from the fall I knew growing up in California—not a postcard of brilliant leaves, but a subtler change in the air.

I think of rainy school days and coming home to a warm, soapy bath. Clean hair. Wool coats and tweed. Leather boots. The quiet woodiness of old oak casks at the wineries my parents visited.

And I think of Anisette Toast—the lightly sweet Italian biscuits I loved as a child. Star anise brings me back to that particular warmth. Not black licorice, and not sugary sweetness, but something soft, toasted, spiced, and deeply familiar.

Otoño is that memory of fall: comforting but polished, clean but warm, and touched by the feeling of being cared for.

Star Anise
